The Year in Review 2007 - Boy Culture - Movie

Boy Culture is an award-winning LGBT film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Matthew Rettenmund. It made its world premiere in the United Kingdom at the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival on April 1, 2006, and made its debut in the United States at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 26, 2006. It subsequently received a theatrical release in France on January 31, 2007, a very limited theatrical release in the United States on March 23, 2007, and in Spain on June 8, 2007. It was released on DVD-video on August 14, 2007.





A successful male escort describes in a series of confessions his tangled romantic relationships with his two roommates and an older, enigmatic male client.
While the story remains the same as the novel - a call boy (Magyar) who goes by the name 'X' throughout the film in order to maintain his anonymity and his relationships between his two roommates (Stephens & Trent), one of whom he's in love with, and an enigmatic older client (Bauchau) who challenges him to find his heart before he will consent to sex.
The movie's differences from the novel include Andrew's character, now an African American, and the location of the story in Seattle, Washington instead of Chicago, Illinois.

The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green (Kiss Me)

Ethan Green não tem sorte no amor. Isso nos é dito logo nos créditos iniciais, quando somos apresentados a todos os personagens do filme. Também somos avisados para não sentirmos pena dele, pois ele é o único culpado por não conseguir um relacionamento estável.

Pois bem, na primeira cena, ele está lendo um livro de auto-ajuda, The Boyfriend Within, num parque, é atingido por uma bola de tênis, acaba se apaixonando por seu salvador e é correspondido. Ele acredita ter finalmente conhecido o amor de sua vida, mas sua roomate lésbica, que acabou de levar um pé na bunda, diz que não vai durar. Até que dura um tempo razoável, mas no dia em que o antigo jogador de basebol ultra-sarado e recém saído do armário propõe que eles morem juntos, Ethan decide terminar tudo, para espanto geral do restaurante. Nem mesmo o garotinho gordo acredita que ele fez o que fez.

Sim, estamos diante de um filme que também tem toques surreais, como numa cena aonde a mãe de Ethan conversa com ele através de um aparelho de TV.

No dia seguinte, bate o arrependimento, mas é tarde demais por uma questão bem simples: ele nem tenta conversar novamente com o, agora, ex-namorado para ver se a oferta ainda está de pé. Ele fica apenas se lamentando e chorando ao pé do ouvido de sua roomate.

Nisso, o que era ruim se torna mais complicado ainda porque a casa aonde ele e a roomate vivem é de um outro ex-namorado dele que decide vendê-la porque vai se casar com um gay simpatizante do partido republicano. Pensa que acabou? Um dos seus ex, uma bichona latina que, de acordo com uma classificação de um amigo meu, é daquelas que "só falta menstruar" mora com a sua mãe, que tem um pequeno negócio de gerenciar casamentos homossexuais.

A galeria de personagens bizarros ainda conta com as "The Hat Sisters", as "tias" bigodudas de Ethan que adoram um chapéu, vivem num casamento estável há séculos, sabem tudo sobre hat style e, nas horas vagas, são terroristas contra políticos homofóbicos (a parte ruim do filme é que "elas" são muito mal aproveitadas). Há também o fuck budy que Ethan conhece numa festa e cuja vida se resume a transar. "The Punch" tem apenas 19 anos e se vangloria de um dia ter transado com um time inteiro de futebol americano quando estava no colegial. No desenrolar do filme, eles acabam se tornando namorados, mas Ethan leva um pé na bunda porque era "imaturo demais". "The Punch" também é o responsável pela apresentação de Sunny Deal a Ethan e sua roomate. Ela era a melhor agente imobiliária do país, mas se tornou depressiva após ter saído de casa um dia e esquecido o forno ligado, o que matou todos os seus gatos. Desde então, ela não vendeu uma única casa e ela é contratada porque Ethan e sua colega não querem que a casa seja vendida.

No final, Sunny Deal sai da depressão depois de encontrar o seu true love. A colega de Ethan também, assim como o próprio protagonista do filme. Onde? No lugar tão óbvio que ele nem procurou direito.

Os atores são canastrões? A maioria é. O roteiro tem algumas falhas? Tem. Os personagens não são bem desenvolvidos? Não, não são. O final é previsível? Sim, totalmente. O filme é divertido? É!

"Luc (Frédéric Mangenot) spends his holiday at the sea with his slightly older and decidedly more effeminate boyfriend Sébastien (Sébastien Charles). At the house they have rented, Sébastien's dancing and preening frustrates Luc, who rebukes him that the neighbors might see. Irritated, Luc goes off on his bicycle to the beach, hoping to find some solitude.
On the beach Luc is finally alone and goes skinny dipping. Afterward, he sunbathes in the nude, and then he meets Lucia (Lucia Sanchez), a Spanish tourist about his age, who, after some flirtatious conversation invites Luc to accompany her into the nearby wood for a tryst. Luc, though somewhat bashful, obliges with little hesitation. After having sex, Lucia learns that Luc is erotically involved with Sébastien and has never been with a woman.
The two return to the beach to find that Luc's clothes have been stolen. Lucia lends Luc her summer dress so that he won't have to return home completely naked. Wearing a woman's dress improves Luc's mood as a car honks its horn after him on the ride back. He returns to the cabin with a smile and a renewed sense of freedom. Luc surprises Sébastien on entering, and, after a few amused remarks about the dress (Luc flirtatiously refers to himself as a "beautiful girl), the two have passionate sex in the kitchen. The dress is partially torn in the act.
The next day, Luc mends the summer dress and brings it back to Lucia, who is just leaving, but she refuses to accept it, coyly suggesting that it may come in handy in the future. She kisses Luc goodbye, and the final frame shows Luc watching her depart, the dress wrapped around his neck and fluttering in the sea breeze."

LE PREMIER BAISER GAY DE BOLLYWOOD: I AM OMAR

Pour la première fois un film indien ose une scène de baiser gay. Il s'agit du nouveau film du réalisateur ONIR, un film qui a pour titre I AM et qui est composé de cinq histoires distinctes qui s'intéressent chacune à une thématique que la société indienne évite généralement d'aborder. L'une d'entre elles, intitulée I am Omar raconte les vexations policières que doivent subir les gays en Inde. met en scène des prostitués masculins et des policiers homophobes. Dans une scène, deux acteurs s'embrassent dans un lieu public et sont surpris par un agent de police qui menace de les réprimer au titre de l'article 377, toujours en vigueur en Inde et qui interdit les relations homosexuelles. L'article 377 a frécemment été mis en question par la Haute Cour de Dehli.

Voici ce qu'en dit le réalisateur, Onir:

Rahul Bose et Arjun Mathur [les deux acteurs, ndrl] ont été très porfessionnels et n'ont montré aucune inhibition; ils ont tourné une scène qui va nettement plus loin que tout ce qu'on a jamais pu voir dans le cinéma indien. Arjun interprète un professionnel du sexe (...)

Le film est basé sur des récits de vie et met en question la loi et la société indiennes, une société de plus en plus violente qui s'oppose à l'expression de ce type d'amour entre adultes consentants.

Le fim sera présenté au festival du film de Rotterdam à la fin du mois de janvier 2010. Le réalisateur espère que la censure indienne permettra que la scène du baiser soit diffusée sur les écrans indiens, scène sans laquelle certains passages du film seraient incompréhensibles.

Il y a quelque temps, Bollywood avait abordé le thème des relations lesbiennes dans le film When Kiran met Karen.
