Things I love.: Dior Christal “8” gold and lacquer watches up for grabs

"Eight seems to be a lucky number for Dior Horlogerie. In 1947, the fashion house released a collection for their first show called “En Huit” (In Eight). And now Dior Horlogerie is now all set to come out with limited edition watches which have been crafted in collaboration with watch movement designers Orny and Girardin to come out with a new “Dior 8 Fuseaux Horaires” caliber movement to give local time, time in eight cities worldwide that too with day/night settings.

The Dior Christal “8” Gold And Lacquer chronograph will spot a 38 mm dial face with mother-of-pearl and gold leaf set in red coral and accented with shades of ivory. The case is set in yellow gold with sapphire crystal metallized case-back. Finished with a Black python strap and a Yellow gold ardillon buckle adorned with a black sapphire crystal insert, the watch will have only 8 pieces to pick from."

"In a limited edition of 8 timepieces, Dior Christal “8” is a tribute to Monsieur Dior and his passion for art."

Saudi Arabia builds a $800 million clock to dwarf the Big Ben

"The Greenwich Mean Time is up for a stiff competition from the Mecca. The Muslim community worldwide is all set to synchronize their watches with a giant clock in the Islamic holy city of Mecca. Bearing a resemblance to the Big Ben tower the 2000 feet tall monument will feature a four-faced clock and will run on Arabia Standard Time; three hours ahead of GMT. Towering over the holy Kabaa in Mecca, Saudi Arabia at a height of 1,972 ft, will sit atop a massive skyscraper which when completed will be one of the world's tallest buildings.

Each clock face will be set in 98 million pieces of glass mosaics and bear the inscription 'God is greatest' in Arabic. The 130-foot diameter clock dials will be visible over a 16 mile radius. The entire project is being designed by German and Swiss engineers and as per the directions of the Ministry of Religious Endowments. The project will cost $800 million. DailyMail reports that 'The unveiling of the clock is a deliberate attempt to take over from Greenwich Observatory which was chosen as the starting point for the measurement of time in 1884."
