Director Michal Goldman traces the history of "The Coops," a cooperative apartment complex built in the Bronx by Jewish garment workers. The film tracks the rise and fall of the community from the 1920s into the 1950s, bearing witness to lives lived across barriers of race, convention and sometimes even common sense.
In this clip, former residents of the Coops recall celebrating May Day, also known as International Workers' Day, and marching in parades.
AT HOME IN UTOPIA premieres Tuesday, April 28 on INDEPENDENT LENS, a weekly series airing on PBS. Hosted by Terrence Howard, the acclaimed series showcases powerful and innovative independent films. Presented by ITVS, INDEPENDENT LENS is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide."

C'est l'aboutissement d'une terrible lutte menée contre les Cathares, qui représentaient une menace aux yeux de l’Eglise.
Les Dominicains qui conduisent l'Inquisition n’épargneront personne, pas même le prêtre ni la châtelaine.
En effet, au siècle précédent, les papes Innocent III puis Grégoire IX ont donné toute latitude aux Dominicains pour éradiquer «l’hérésie cathare».
Le village entier sera interrogé, lors d'un vaste procès.
La documentation exhaustive soigneusement archivée par l’évêque Fournier a permis aux historiens d'en reconstituer le déroulement.

Belle Epoque (Beautiful Age) Dressing the Part (2)
The turn of the twentieth century brought with it significant changes in American culture and fashion. Working women, in sales and clerical positions, had more money to spend. They could take advantage of the new department stores that made "modish" garments and cosmetics readily available. Women could also travel alone in Model "T" Fords and venture unchaperoned into nickelodeon theaters. The result was a democratization of cultural amusements and a liberation from bourgeois domination over matters of taste and style. Although dress was still restrictive, it asserted a more overt female sexuality and was symbolic of women’s increasing independence.
The new styles were largely inspired by forms of theater that in past years had been taboo. Whereas "women of the stage" had been considered "low" and "unchaste," they were now considered to be at the forefront of fashion. Burlesque women, whose blatant sexuality had openly ridiculed bourgeois order, inspired the fashionable Gibson Girl shape with its voluptuous projections of the bust and the hips. As more women became independent and publicly active, the corset became looser and the "new look" became waistless. Paul Poiret, the French designer inspired by the "harem" costumes of the Ballets Russes, ushered in this style in 1908 which rejected the corset and sported shockingly cropped hair. Latin dancing --associated in years past with classes on the fringe of "respectable" society -- became a popular pastime and demanded erotic, thin clothing. As the suffrage movement gathered in force and women’s sexuality became more acceptable (Vogue proclaimed in 1908, "The leg has suddenly become fashionable"), women’s dress loosened its strictures and followed suit.

16 octobre 1793 : Marie-Antoinette vit sa dernière journée. A la Conciergerie, dans sa cellule, le bourreau et ses aides sont venus la préparer pour son exécution.
23 ans plus tôt, jeune princesse autrichienne, elle arrive en France sous les acclamations. Elle vient épouser le dauphin, Louis-Auguste, qui sera bientôt roi sous le nom de Louis XVI.
A Versailles, la future reine de France, se trouve isolée, exposée aux hostilités diverses de la cour, auprès d’un mari distant. Il lui faudra sept longues années pour lui donner un premier enfant…
Peut-être est-ce à cause de cela que Marie-Antoinette se réfugia dans un monde où seul son plaisir comptait ? On la disait dépensière, joueuse, et frivole sans doute pour échapper à une vie régie par trop de contraintes étouffantes.
23 ans plus tard, cette même femme, déchue de son titre de reine, est menée à la guillotine. Elle est vieillie avant l’âge. Ses cheveux sont gris. Les cris qui s’abattent maintenant sur elle sont des cris de haine.
Que s’est-il passé ? Pourquoi cette mort ?

Sur les traces de la mégalopole antique
Les archéologues ont longtemps pensé que rien ne subsistait de la cité d'Alexandre.
Mais en 1995, la statue colossale de l'un de ses premiers rois, jaillit du font du port.
A l'origine de cette découverte, l'archéologue Jean-Yves Empereur.
Deux ans plus tard, un chantier d'autoroute met à jour les fondations d'une ville souterraine, Nécropolis.
L'archéologue y dirige des fouilles d'urgence.
Au fil des jours, nombreux trésors sont dévoilés et les fouilles d'urgence se multiplient dans cette cité en pleine reconstruction qui, en faisant peau neuve, exhume les vestiges de son passé pour les engloutir aussitôt.
