Le concept d'un duo britannique formé d'une chanteuse charismatique au look androgyne, Annie Lennox, et d'un guitariste taciturne et effacé, Dave Stewart, s'est montré porteur en termes de ventes, probablement en raison de l'émergence grandissante des concepts féministes. Ce schéma du duo électronique se répandit surtout au cœur des années 1980, notamment au Royaume-Uni où Eurythmics partageaient la vedette avec OMD, Soft Cell, Tears For Fears ou encore les increvables Erasure. Le principe a également été décliné à l'identique dans d'autres pays, par exemple en France avec Niagara, puis les Rita Mitsouko ou encore en Suède, avec Roxette.
